“A Lifestyle of Prayer”

Prepared For the Spirit!

“The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him — the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD — and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.”
Isaiah 11:2 (NIV)

This week we will focus on some qualities of the Spirit of the Lord as Isaiah describes the Spirit resting upon Jesus!  This same Spirit that filled Jesus has been given by Him to all who would choose to be prepared by the Spirit, and for the Spirit.  As Jesus grew “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man”, He did so by the same Spirit given to you and me.  As you pray this week, pray that your life would represent the Spirit of the Lord resting upon you on a daily basis.  Pray that the Spirit would be evident in your life by the fruit which it produces.  Pray for a faithfulness in following Jesus by the power and guidance of His Spirit.  Pray that the confirmation of God’s Spirit in the life of Jesus would lead you to follow Him with a whole heart.  Pray for an obedient spirit within you that would always respond well to the truth of God’s Word.  Pray that the light of Jesus would be seen brightly in you as you walk by the Spirit.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”
Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)

Please pray each day for God to help you walk as one prepared for the Spirit.

Sunday: Pray for your church staff, the preaching and teaching that takes place, the church leadership, the volunteers that are helping in so many areas, the spiritual and financial health of the congregation, and the work of the missions ministry of the church.  Pray for me (Tom Lemler) and the work of Impact Prayer Ministry.

Monday: Spirit of Wisdom.  Pray that God’s Spirit would fill you with His wisdom as you seek His face.  Pray that the wisdom of God would be evident in your speech and your actions as you grow in your knowledge of Him.  “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”  Ephesians 1:17 (NIV)

Tuesday: Spirit of Understanding.  Pray that you would always look to the Spirit of God to gain necessary understanding of the things of God.  Pray for God’s help in understanding how the breath of God in you fills you with life.  Pray that you would represent God as the One who gives understanding.  “But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.”  Job 32:8 (NIV)

Wednesday: Spirit of Counsel.  Pray that you would allow the Spirit of God living in you to always be your wonderful counselor.  Pray for a willingness to hear, and respond to, the wonderful counsel which comes through God’s Spirit.  “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”  John 14:26 (NIV)

Thursday: Spirit of Power.  Pray that your witness for Jesus would be filled with great power through His Spirit in you.  Pray for the courage to allow the power of God’s Spirit within you to always be visible to others through your godly love and self-discipline.  “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”  2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

Friday: Spirit of Knowledge.  Pray that you would always seek true knowledge that can only be found through the Spirit of the Lord.  Pray that you would allow godly wisdom and godly knowledge to work together by the Spirit.  “To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit.”  1 Corinthians 12:8 (NIV)

Saturday:  Spirit of a Fear Of the Lord.  Pray that your life would constantly exhibit a fear of the Lord that comes from His Spirit.  Pray for spiritual, and numerical, growth to come as the Spirit brings a fear of the Lord.  “Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.”  Acts 9:31 (NIV)
